Special Education

Our Bodhi Tree School special education program helps children with special needs living in remote underserved villages around Bodhgaya India. We use a integral collaboration team approach to educating and supporting the children and families, in addition to special education teachers, our collaborative team includes, medical doctors, neurologists, phycologists, speech therapists and physical therapists.

Special education programs are developed with a collaboration team approach to educating and supporting the children and families. In addition to special education teachers, our team includes; medical doctors, neurologists, phycologists, speech therapists and physical therapists.

Children with disabilities require access to services that can support them throughout their time in school, such as more individual attention from instructors and a range of important health services that would normally not be available for the families we serve that are living in extreme poverty.

According to the United Nations Centre for Human Rights, only 2% of children in developing countries with disabilities have access to these services. Those without access to these services are excluded from education and unable to attend school.

Our special education programs are customized to address each individual student’s unique needs. Special educators provide a continuum of services, in which students with special needs receives compassionate support based on their individual requirements. Our programs are individualized so that they address the unique combination of needs of the children in our school.

Students in the villages with special needs are assessed to determine their specific strengths and weaknesses. The earlier these students with special needs are assessed, the better it is for them to get the accommodations that they require in order for them to get the most of their education. Placement, resources, and goals are determined on the basis each student’s unique abilities.

Our special educational programs help children that would normally never have a chance to go to school through a range of focused activities and therapeutic modalities to have life of dignity and joy that has not been available in Bodghaya or Northern India before.

Given the poverty levels in India and other developing countries, the education of children with disabilities unfortunately has not become a priority. Children with physical disabilities are less likely to attend school in comparison with students who do not have a disability and children with intellectual disabilities are even less likely to attend school than children with physical disabilities.

Our special educational program help children that would normally never have a chance to go to school through a range of highly focused activities and therapeutic modalities to have life of dignity and joy that has not been available in Bodghaya or the state of Bihar in Northern India before.

We were humbled and honored to have former Chief Minister of the state of Bihar Jitan Ram Manjhi give awards to our dedicate medical team and staff on the United Nations supported World Mental Health Day. The Chief Minister also greatly acknowledged his utmost gratitude for the Rotary Club of Albert Park Australia for their ongoing support of the Bodhi Tree Schools special education programs “This huge gesture of Rotary Club is highly commendable and it shows depth of kindness of each Rotarian”
